VHS Recording Standards

Worldwide, there are 3 recording standards for a commercially released video, and each is unique and incompatible because of differing rates of frame per second delivery. However, some recent VCRs will play multiple formats. Please check your VCR manual or contact the manufacturer.

Amazon.com sells the NTSC video standard only, which is used mostly in the US and Canada.

DVD Recording Standards

Currently, there are six global regions that identify where specific DVDs are compatible with the players typically sold in that region. The majority of all current titles play only in one specific region unless otherwise noted. However, some DVD machines can play multi-region DVDs. Please check your DVD player manual or contact the manufacturer.

Amazon.com sells DVDs encoded for Region One (1) only and may not work on DVD players in other countries.

Amazon.co.uk sells DVDs encoded for Region Two (2) only.

Sendit.com sells DVDs encoded for Region Two (2) only.

The following are the six regions and their corresponding numerical equivalent:

  1. US, US Territories and Canada.
  2. Japan, Europe including the UK, South Africa and the Middle East including Egypt.
  3. Southeast Asia, East Asia including Hong Kong.
  4. Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Central America, South America and the Caribbean.
  5. Former Soviet Union, Indian sub-continent, Africa, North Korea and Mongolia.
  6. China.
